When You're Looking For A Qualified Equine Professional.

Prior to enrolling in the Equestrian Program at
Lake Erie College, Denise had loved horses
since childhood like most young girls.  Denise
enjoyed taking horseback riding lessons at the
local stables in the park.  She learned how to
ride and what it meant to give back to the
community.  When she wasn’t in school, Denise
volunteered at the stables helping the
instructors with their other classes or helping
out with the local handicapped riding program,
Centaur Therapeutic Riding.  Denise eventually
moved on to another barn where she rode and
assisted with the care of 10 horses until she
enrolled for college.

Denise is a proud alumni member of Lake Erie College located in northeastern Ohio.  The liberal arts
based college is a four-year accredited higher education institution that takes pride in offering a personal
touch to learning.  Lake Erie College is a member in good standing of the North Central Association of
Colleges and Secondary Schools, the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Ohio
(AICUO), the Northeast Ohio Council on Higher Education (NOCHE), the Council of Independent Colleges
(CIC) and the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges (OFIC).  Lake Erie College also has the great
honor of being one of two colleges in the United States to gain approval/certification by the internationally
renowned British Horse Society.

Denise received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1996.  Her major was Equine Facility Management with
a minor in Equestrian Teacher Trainer.  Many of her instructors at the college held high-ranking positions
within the northeastern Ohio equestrian community.  Her head coach had been with the College for over 30
years prior to her retirement in 2006.  Many well-respected and renowned clinicians (i.e. -- George Morris
and Chris Kappler) came to the college to teach seminars.  Some of the horse related classes that were
most interesting to Denise were Equine Lameness, Equine Nutrition, Equine History and Theory, Stable
Management, Show Judging and many of her balanced seat riding classes.  Dressage, Hunt Seat,
Combined Training and Stadium Jumping classes were all part of Denise’s class schedule.  The
Intercollegiate Horse Show Association was also a favorite pastime.

Once graduated, Denise worked for a stable in northeastern Ohio as one of its facility maintenance
workers.  From there she procured a position as the Operations Manager of another local riding
establishment.  Denise’s main responsibility was to oversee and care for twelve horses in a competitive
Hunt Seat stable.  Proper nutrition, record keeping for farrier and veterinarian, and upkeep of tack and
equipment were also part of the job.  Although other professional positions lured Denise away from horses
as her main job, she still helped out her friends with their horse training and teaching.

Denise married Craig in 1997 and they continued to live in Ohio until 2000.  A change of lifestyle and the
promise of a challenge prompted them to move to Raleigh, North Carolina.  Once Denise arrived in Raleigh,
she starting looking immediately for new “horse possibilities”.  She found just that.  A family in Wake Forest
had several horses in their backyard that were being ridden by local church youth.  The owners had taught
the children everything they could and knew that an accomplished professional was needed at this point.
Denise taught several of the children the fundamentals of balanced seat horseback riding and horse care.
One of her students even went on to compete in several local Hunt Seat shows.

In 2007 Denise and Craig opened
Reining Cats and Dogs Pet Sitting.  She is an avid believer in animals
and what they can do for humans.  Denise continues to ride as much as she can with her busy schedule
and enjoy the simple pleasures of horses and what they are all about.
Horse Sitting
If you are looking for someone who knows horses, their
temperament, pros and cons of owning an equine, costs

seat riding instruction, you need look no further.  Please
contact Denise directly to discuss your specific horse needs.
